We made it!!

Hello! I am happy to announce that we made it! All 410 miles in 28 days! We arrived on Thursday, July 28. Not to sound too cliche, but Maddie and I both agreed that it was one of the happiest moments of our lives. We walked 40 km that day and arrived, exhausted and overjoyed to reach our final destination. After basking in our accomplishment in front of the church and taking some time to think about what this would have meant to Dad, we went and saw Saint James' grave, received our compostellas  (certificates of completion) and promptly collapsed for the next 2 days. 

The last few days of our trip were full of big hills, cow pies, bed bugs (eek!) and even a Spanish circus. Internet was hard to come by and always included a line of people looking over your shoulder. The food finally got better the closer we got to Santiago. We even tried the famous dish, Galacian pulpo (octopus) and loved it! So good! 

We arrived in Finsterra yesterday for Maddie's birthday and had a wonderful birthday celebration. After hiking to towards the ocean for so many days it has been wonderful to FINALLY see it! She is beyond thrilled to see so much sun and beach.

Today we will hike to the very end of the peninsula at Finsterra and scatter the last part of Dad's ashes. It is amazing that his last request has taken us on such an adventure. We are constantly reminded of him and think how much he would have truly loved every minute of this journey.
