Day 3- Torres del Rio

Hello everyone!

We are already off of our schedule- surprise! We got a little antsy in Barcelona (the rain wasn´t helping!) and decided to start our hike a day early.

We arrived in Pamplona Wednesday evening after spending the morning at La Sagrada Familia. (Scott - you wouldn´t BELIEVE how much it´s changed since we were there! Stain glass windows, the inside is totally done, it´s amazing!)

We spent Wed. night in a church that had over a hundred bunk beds for pilgrims. It was totally bizarre. Our beds were next to some eastern European military men who failed to speak Spanish or English except when they woke us up the next morning - dressed head to toe in fatigues at 5am- and growled, `gooooddd morning girrrlss`in a terrifying accent that sounded like something out of a horror movie.

Day 1: We hiked up and over a mountain. 15 miles, 6 hours. We stayed in Puenta de la Reina. A beautiful town with a medieval bridge, the most famous found on the Camino!

Day 2: We left around 7am and hiked 20 miles to Villa Meyor de Monjardin. We got stuck in the afternoon sun (no Mom, we didn´t get sunburned and we stayed well hydrated) and somehow all 20 miles seemed to be uphill. Around mile 16 we ended up at a vineyard and they had a FREE WINE FOUNTAIN! We thought it was a myth! It was wonderful and exactly what we needed to recharge. When we finally arrived at our destination there were no beds left at the hostel. We were sent to a little hotel with 3 rooms and managed to get the last room in the entire city! We were very happy about that!

Day 3: Today we hiked through vineyards and the Spanish amber waves of grain. We arrived at our destination, Torres del Rio, in time to get the 1st room at the hostel and a fantastic Menu de Peregrinos (10 euros for 3 course meal and a bottle of wine, very nice!)

Overall, the scenery is absolutely beautiful and everywhere we turn looks like a postcard! Also, I´m surprised by how few people speak Spanish or English on the Camino. There are a ton of Pilgrims (people doing the Camino) and I think we are the youngest of them all. Our biggest problem so far has been figuring out when hot meals are served! We´ve been wanting to eat dinner at 6 and they don't serve it until 8. It´s hard to get food anywhere else before then because the markets close early. After a long day of hiking, that´s a long two hours!

So far, no sisterly fights! Just a lot of trail scattegories and finding out every little thing about each other... such as, who has blisters on which toes. But really, our feet and bods are holding up well! We´re breezing by most of the other Pilgrims!  Tomorrow we will hopefully hike around 20 miles if the weather holds up.
